BR1M IN SABAH LAST FOR A SHORT WHILE

THE BR1M money given by the government to the families with monthly income less than RM3000 went without real gain to the people. For some people the RM500 can only last for a short while.

In a Parliament reply it stated that the program on giving out the BR1M signified the strong economy and good management of the country financial status. It further said that the government always ensures that revenue received will balance the expenditure and at the same time benefits the people.
In Sabah, we are the fifth high on the approval list during the last round of BR1M distribution. This is with Selangor 530,977 person, Johor 466,367, Sarawak 463,237, Perak 429,231, and for Sabah it was 408,927. FT Labuan has 11,608 person who received the BR1M.

For Sabah, there was 477,200 applicants, and only 408,927 or 85.7% was approved and the total amount given out was RM204,466,500. As for Sarawak, the applicant was 561,743 and 463,237 (82.5%) was approved. The total amount given out was RM231,618,500.

The KKMP Hiew King Cheu said a second round of BR1M will be proposed during the September 28 budget, meaning that another RM2.3billion or more shall be taken out from the national coffer to be shared among the people. The two billions over ringgits distributed last round is still not clear where the government took or rather "borrowed" from, and yet they are going to give out another round.

No doubt this is good news for the people, but what is the real impact to the overall economy and wellbeing on the people and the country. Is the Malaysian financial account / balance sheet in red and is our economy doing well, while we have a national debts of over RM500,000,000,000.00 (RM500 billions)?

It is rather sad to see the Sabah economy is not doing well and this is proven by the large number of people applying for the BR1M. In fact, many people didn't have the chance to apply, and it is estimated that over one hundred thousand people in Sabah will apply this second round of BR1M.
The authorities should standby enough manpower and money to cater for all the applicants in Sabah. It is better for the government to distribute the money before the general election.

MP Hiew encourages the people who are illegible to standby and get their documents ready for the application this time. This is your money, and you should take it for your use.

Hiew at the mean while challenges the Sabah CM Datuk Musa Aman to follow what the Federal Government on the BR1M, that Sabah Government should also give illegible Sabahan RM200 per person every year. This works out to be only RM200million, and it is only 5% of the annual state budget.
If Yayasan Sabah can give us some money, why can't the Sabah State government can't find some money for the people. Where are the taxes, palm oil tax, timber money and gambling tax etc?

It is time that we should reconsider whether we want to reappoint BN to manage our government next or not? Whether it is the "Devil that treated you badly, or the Angle that you don't know to help you"! (DAP Media)

  2. Cadangan saya bagus kalau BR1M ini akan dilaksanakan setiap tahun. Setiap awal tahun kerana ini akan mengurangkan beban ibubapa untuk membeli barangan persekolahan anak-anak.

  6. The government will announce a second round of RM500 cash handouts to underprivileged households under Budget 2013, in a move that is expected to boost the ratings of Datuk Seri Najib Razak and his Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition ahead of the general election expected to be called early next year. The second BR1M will be paid out as part of the Budget, a government source told The Malaysian Insider. The source declined to give further details, but the decision to have a fresh round of handouts suggests that elections are not likely to be called this year. This is because the RM500 handouts will take time to be paid out.

    1. The RM500 paid out to nearly five million families at a cost to taxpayers of RM2.6 billion earlier this year saw Najib’s approval ratings shoot up to 69 per cent, largely due to a surge among poorer households. But the aftermath of violence that erupted between police and demonstrators at the April 28 Bersih rally for free and fair elections saw his popularity slide to 65 per cent.

    2. Najib will table the Budget on September 28 and besides the fresh handout he is expected to announce other measures to boost domestic spending and the economy in a bid to head off a worsening economic outlook as he prepares to call his first elections. The economy grew at a surprising pace of 5.4 per cent in the second quarter, blowing away economists’ expectations and potentially giving rise to a feel-good factor ahead of the general election.

    3. But the good news is not expected to last as the global outlook is likely to affect Malaysian exports.Malaysia’s surprisingly strong second-quarter economic growth despite weakening exports was largely due to the buffer of ongoing construction projects and increased spending attributed to civil servant salary hikes and government cash handouts, say economists, which could point to uneven growth in the months ahead.

    4. This means many ordinary Malaysians are not feeling the positive effects of economic growth, making the second BR1M handouts necessary to continue maintaining any economic momentum.A number of international ratings agencies also say that Malaysia has yet to present a convincing plan to tackle the twin fiscal threats of its federal budget deficit and federal debt even though strains on its credit profile are increasing.

    5. The ratio of federal government debt to GDP reached 51.8 per cent at end-2011 despite strong GDP growth but barring a further deterioration in the global economy, the government should be able to meet its 2012 deficit target of 4.7 per cent of GDP.Federal lawmakers from the BN are to also receive an added RM1.5 million each to plough into their constituencies this year as the Najib administration looks ahead to polls after the September 28 budget announcement. Sources said that it would take up to three months for the projects to be identified and carried out, and further announcements in Budget 2013, including the second round of cash handouts under the BR1M scheme, would also take time to be executed.

I agree that the people should get their documents ready to apply for the BR1M, but the correct wording should be eligible, no?
