KUALA KUBU BARU, Sept 8 — Umno members have been reminded to strengthen unity to help Barisan Nasional (BN) recapture Selangor in the next general election.
Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal (picture) said Umno members should take BN’s win in Hulu Selangor by-election in 2010 as proof that Selangor can be recaptured with unity and hard work.
“If we could win a by-election in an opposition state, I see no reason why we can’t win the general election,” he told reporters after opening Hulu Selangor Umno and Wanita Umno delegates meeting here today.
Also present were Hulu Selangor Member of Parliment P.Kamalanathan and Hulu Selangor Umno chief Datuk Mohamed Idris Abu Bakar.
The rural and regional development minister also reminded Umno members to support BN candidates from component parties.
This is because the political scenario in the coming general election is different from those in 2004 and 2008.
On the Budget, Mohd Shafie hopes that his ministry would be given a bigger allocation for infrastructure projects.
He said there are still many villages that need basic infrastructure and facilities like roads, water and electricity supply. — Bernama
