I'm not ill, just getting FIT: Bung Mokhtar sheds 7kg
WEIGHTY MATTER- Kinabatangan MP quells speculation of ill health and shares dieting tips
KOTA KINABALU- FIREBRAND backbencher Datuk Bung Mokhtar Radin allayed fears of him being sick and confined to his bed at home in Sandakan."Maybe it's because I am seven kilogrammes lighter now," he quipped, on the rumours that have been circulating in his parliamentary constituency, Kinabatangan.
The deputy chief of the Barisan Nasional Backbenchers Club said he was not well for a few days during the fasting month and went for a medical check-up.
"Doctors put it as 'lethargy' and ordered me to rest more and check my dietary habits. What I heard from people who met me, however, was different.
"Some said I fainted on a stage in my constituency, others said there were those who put a spell on me and there were even talks about me being confined to my bed at home.
"These are all lies by the opposition to confuse the people because they know I go to the ground a lot and look after my constituents the best that I can," said the controversial 53-year-old politician who also heads the Kinabatangan Umno division.
Bung had even shared some tips on how he had lost weight and revealed it's part of his campaign strategy in his constituency, which is bigger in size than Pahang.
"I've reduced my consumption of rice, eating more vegetables and fish. It's not easy for someone who can eat up to three platefuls like me, but I need to be fit to continue serving my constituents. Being healthy is not an option for me. It's a must."
Bung said his duty is far from over because Kinabatangan yearns for more basic infrastructure developments, despite the vast progress it has seen under the BN government. One of the main issues he has consistently fought for was the road link between Sandakan and Kinabatangan.
"With all the agricultural and other commercial development going on it's about time a dual carriageway is built on this stretch."
Water, electricity and housing needs too, must continue so that the people do not lose faith in the BN against the many lies and promises made by the opposition, he said, and noted these will be the issues harped on as the election nears.
