PAS keeps Nasharuddin in syura council
PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang yesterday announced that the party has decided to keep its former deputy president Nasharuddin Mat Isa in the syura council despite the latter's criticism against the party's stance on the hudud controversy.
Hadi said the council's two-hour meeting, which started around 9pm last night, did not discuss Nasharuddin's status.
Instead the party's highest authority focused its discussion on PAS candidates who will be fielded in the next generalelection, he told reporters after attending the meeting.
“It was not in the meeting agenda. No. He was present at the meeting. He is still a member of the syura council.
Hadi's statement has ended thespeculation that Nasharuddin, who is also Bachok MP, would face the music after openly questioning PAS' stance on the hudud issue and urging the party to quit Pakatan Rakyat.
Asked whether Nasharuddin will be nominated as PAS candidate in the coming general election, Hadi said that will be announced later.
“Wait for the general election. I don't even know whether I will become candidate or not,” he replied.
Nasharuddin had also attended the press conference together with Hadi and vice-president Salahuddin Ayub but declined to comment.
The party's spiritual leader and Kelantan Menteri Besar Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, who leads the syura council, was seen leaving the party headquarters at around 9.20pm without giving any statement to the media.
