Perkasa: We've nothing to do with shoe-throwing at Anwar

The Kota Setar Pertubuhan Pribumi Perkasa (Perkasa) wants PAS vice-president Mahfuz Omar to stop linking the organisation with the alleged shoe-throwing incident at opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim at the Al-Hussain Mosque in Seberang Pumpong, in Alor Setar, last Sunday.
Its chairperson Mohd Yusoff Ismail said the claim that his members were involved in the incident was a malicious accusation as until now, there was no posting of pictures on the shoe-throwing on any blog or YouTube.

NONEHe said there were postings made by certain quarters on the blogs on the commotion at the mosque, but there was none on the alleged shoe-throwing incident.

"Because of this, we regard the claim on the shoe-throwing as a lie by Mahfuz (left) and Anwar. Otherwise, give us the proof. And if the accusation continues, we may take legal action," he told reporters today.

Anwar had claimed that a shoe was hurled at him while he was giving a talk at the mosque.

On the presence of Perkasa members at the mosque, Yusoff said members of the congregation had sought their help to prevent the mosque from being used for politics.

"If PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang or its spiritual leader Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat were to give the talk, we would not have objected because they know the rules," he added.

"It was only when he (Anwar) touched on politics and accused the (Barisan Nasional) government of lying that we asked him to stop. This can be watched on YouTube," he added.
