PKR seeks pow-wow with IGP over attacks

PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution will be writing to inspector-general of police Ismail Omar to request for a discussion on recent attacks against party figures.

In a press release today, PKR communications director Nik Nazmi Nik Mat said this was necessitated by the latest incident where projectiles were lobbed at the party's campaign bus yesterday.

He said attacks against PKR-related events have been consistent throughout the country but the police seem to turning a blind eye against the perpetrators.

"Police reports have been lodged. Until today, the police don't seem to be serious about taking any action," he said.

NONENik Nazmi said the police appear to have ignored the continued spate of violence despite the mob attack on Anwar's vehicle inSembrong, Johor and the raining of stones on a PKR ceramah in Pantai Dalam, Kuala Lumpur.

The party's double-decker campaign bus was struck with red paint by a group of 20 protesters who were trying to chase PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim away from Kampung Rim in Jasin, Malacca.

This was the second attack on the bus in a week. The first attack occurred on Sept 1 in Kota Baru, Kelantan just one day after it was unveiled to the public.

Financed by former PKR treasurer Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, the campaign bus is supposed to take Anwar and his campaign team across peninsula Malaysia to drum up support as part of the Jelajah Merdeka Rakyat tour.

It is understood this tour is PKR's answer to Umno president Najib Abdul Razak's Janji Ditepati tour.
