PKR Youth has responded to Selangor Umno’s allegation that the present state government has caused Universiti Selangor (Unisel) to suffer annual losses, pointing the finger back at the previous Umno government’s malpractices.
“The Selangor government is in the process of taking over Unisel’s RM15 million losses to alleviate the financial burden to the university.
“This is because the problem started during the construction of Unisel, when the former Umno-BN state government did not allocate funds to settle the said debt,” said PKR Youth Selangor chief Azmizam Zaman Huri.
He was responding to Selangor Umno deputy chief Noh Omar’s demand that the PKR-led Selangor government answer to Unisel’s losses as recorded in its audit reports for 2009 and 2010.
“As a minister ... Noh Omar should know that Unisel does not have sufficient capital or the financial means to repay the said debt.
“This is because one of the problems of Unisel is its capital was not sufficient to foot costs such as its campus construction amounting to RM600 million and its hostel costing RM200 million,” said Azmizam in a statement today.
