PM Najib arrives in Vladivostok for Apec 2012


VLADIVOSTOK: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak arrived here amid a fine weather in Russky Island here at 10pm (local time) for the 20th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) Economic Leaders' Meeting (AELM) that begins here Saturday.
The Prime Minister was accompanied by his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.
The 20th AELM themed "Integrate to Grow, Innovate to Prosper" will be chaired by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Prior to the AELM, the Apec Ministerial Meeting (AMM) was held here from Sept 5-6 and the APEC Concluding Senior Officials Meeting (CSOM) from Sept 2-3.
Two cabinet ministers, who represented Malaysia at the AMM, were International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamedand Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman.

Others in the Malaysian delegation for Apec 2012 were Datuk Zainol Abidin Omar, Malaysia's Ambassador to Russia and senior officials from the Prime Minister's Department, Finance Ministry, International Trade and Industry Ministry, Foreign Ministry and Agriculture and Agro-Based Ministry.
The AELM is an annual summit attended by Heads of Government of the 21-member economies, which plays a vital role in promoting trade and investment network in the Asia-Pacific region.
The Apec forum is regarded as one of the major platforms to discuss regional economic cooperation, trade and investment, which can simultaneously strengthen bilateral relations of member economies.
Najib is scheduled to deliberate on the four priorities of Apec 2012, namely liberalising trade and investment and expanding regional economic integration, strengthening food security, establishing reliable supply chains, and fostering innovative growth. The Prime Minister will also hold bilateral meetings with Apec economies' leaders, including Putin.
The outcome from the Economic Leaders' Meeting will be documented in the Joint Leaders' Declaration while the 24th Apec Ministerial Meeting outcomes will be compiled in the Joint Ministerial Statement. - Bernama
